The title of this post is a Jewish approach to what we all know is a quite “Christian” observance. Christmas Day falls within the observance of Hanukka this year (December 20-28). By the way, the Jewish holiday can be spelled about a half dozen ways in English. Please don’t correct me!
The Messianic Hope of the Hebrew Scriptures is not limited to the individual prophecies about the Messiah. The individual Messianic prophecies mentioned in the NT, as significant as they are, are really the tips a very large iceberg below the surface. That does not imply that the prophecies themselves are insignificant. Those individual texts are what we are exposed to most often as we read the NT.
Since we are well into the Advent Season of 2011, I would like to post over the next couple of weeks some thoughts on how the OT Hope for a Messiah was actually fulfilled by Jesus’ advent. A couple of years ago I developed a power point presentation, with the help of Todd Bolen’s old photographs, that stresses five of these promises and our response to them. I am providing below a link to this presentation which will load into your power point program. It is very graphical with even a slight touch of humor, if one gets it! It is appropriately titled “Merry Messiahmas.”
While it is provided for your edification, please feel free to use it in a Bible Study, a Sunday School class, or in any way you wish. You don’t even have to credit me or Todd. We are happy that it can be a blessing to you and to others. Enjoy.
If you do not “do” powerpoint, I will post some of the slides in the next Christmas post. In any case, join us for some season appropriate thoughts.
